Just finished up getting my babies into their new home - 4 rearing kits-very active little buggers - over 80 cats - maybe in a week or two some will take the BIG test-Mother Nature--found and lost a fully developed cat - hope it is safe(in my milkweed patch) - lets hope for the best!!!!!!!!!

Wow ,Fish! That is a lottttt of babies! I just set free four beautiful Monarchs today. 2 males and 2 females. These are the children of a Monarch that laid her eggs in our school garden on May 31st.
She was so ragged and must have flown a long way in search of milkweed . I love thinking of her history...She must have been a second generation monarch..her own mother spending the winter in Mexico. Her four children are perfect and strong! But I wonder about the ramifications of them mating with each other...which seems likely.

Ooh, have fun with all those cats! Gosh when I had that many cats they were running me ragged keeping the containers clean and full of fresh milkweed. We have let go 99 beautiful Monarchs so far this year. I have three that emerged today which I will let go tomorrow, that makes 102 so far. Also amazingly enough out of the 102 we had 51 males and 51 females! I still have 10 crysallis and about 12 cats. Still finding eggs here and there but nothing like I did back in the end of May.

I am attaching a pic of one that fell from its crysallis when it emerged. Lucky for her I noticed soon after and had her crawl onto my finger, once her wings were expanded I had her crawl onto some netting to finish the drying process. The pic was taken when I let her go.
