I had a monarch whose top wings were stuck in the chrysalis and after awhile I helped it out because if the bottom wings were in the opposite direction of the top (because of gravity and the way the butterfly was pulling) and I feared with time the wings would get stuck in that opposite direction.
I let the butterfly hang and sure enough the wings managed to straighten out, except the color is missing on the ends of the wings. That was yesterday, and today I notice green clear liquid in the bottom of part of the wings. Will this dry out? Can I let the butterfly go like that? I tried a test run this morning but it was clear the butterfly was not ready so I will try again this afternoon.
