Butterfly with wings that fold down wards.

Postby Pamela Moresby » Fri Dec 30, 2005 8:32 pm

Most butterflies flap their wings outwards (and upwards) and fly away. I have one pet butterfly that can't fly because the wings go downwards. I found it in the sink after comming back from a holiday. the butterfly is 3 and a half weeks old. Wings are 10 cm or 4 inch wingspan from tip to tip. The wings are folded down and inverted at a 45% angle.

Every now and then it gets fed on water and honey (always fresh) but not too often. Also give it fresh flowers and water. When doing the gardening it goes out with me and I put it on a flower in the lawn.

I just took "Flutterby"s picture today. When my photos are developed and the film is used up - will post it.

Flutterby Sounds Familiar

Postby Becky » Fri Jan 13, 2006 12:19 am

Ihave had a few that sound similar to yours. ...with mine I have noticed that it all starts and depends on the way they can emerge and hang on to the crystallis.......I have had some had can;t hold on and they fall the wings are so wet that they will stick together or to something else and although they are deformed and can not fly right, many do live for a while and can become like pets!

Yes, I have noticed some butterflys can't hang on to anything for a long time after they hatch and the ones that have weak legs don't live very long. However, my little "Flutterby" is still here today 5 weeks and 3 days.

Once, I had one for 7 weeks and it was like a pet - as "Flutterby" is now. It is really hard when they die. But when you consider that most only live 3-4 weeks at the most, think these do extremely well.
