Monarchs in the Caribbean

Postby Jill Caribbean » Tue Nov 01, 2005 2:42 am

I'm wondering where the monarchs go, from here on the island of St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Do they migrate somewhere, or die off and start up again later? I haven't seen many in the past month or so. It never gets below the 70's here, so I figured they'd continue their cycle all year long.

Earlier this year I tried raising them on our front porch and was amazed at the attacks by wasps - very disturbing. We'll try again indoors when they come back from wherever they've gone!

Monarchs are back in the Caribbean

Postby Jill Caribbean » Wed Feb 01, 2006 3:37 pm

:D The monarchs are back, they didn't disappear for long ... perhaps I just didn't see them. I've been planting milkweed all over our yard and front porch, and the caterpillars are appearing ... YIPPPPEEEEEE!!! My goal is to have milkweed plants all along the front porch and throughout the field below our drive way. The milkweed grows year-round, so that shouldn't be a problem!

No more wasp problems? I'm amazed at how far these gentle creatures go. :)
