cage design needed

Postby freda » Mon Aug 06, 2012 2:24 pm

I have developed a pretty efficient system using plastic shoeboxes, disposable plastic bag inserts and paper towels. Previously we transferred chrysalids to a wooden frame wrapped in fibreglass window screen. I'd like to combine these two system features next year but I'm looking to construct something that can be power washed and sterilized better than I'm able to do with my existing wooden frame. The shoeboxes aren't an issue, just the emerging cage. I'm considering heavy-guage plexiglass but cutting and gluing it into the desired shape sounds like it may be unwieldy. Suggestions?

You don't need something that elaborate. You can even leave the pupae laying down in a net container.

You can get these net containers from enasco:

Thanks, Mona...I'm going to check out the video and the website. I had one chrysalis emerge while resting on a towel and I believe that the Monarch Watch lab routinely structures them to emerge from that orientation.
