Discoloration of chrysalis

Postby mflutterby » Fri Sep 24, 2010 7:43 am

These two chrysalis are close to 10 days old and up until today they looked normal. I don't remember them looking like this last year. I know that they do change as it gets closer to them emerging. What do you think?

This looks like impending disease or predation. Sorry. :( But, I'd still take a wait and see attitude.

My C's that turned brown produced tachinid fly maggots.

This just happened to me too. I just had my first chrysalises of the year to go bad. Not saying I didnt have problems with caterpillars, but everyone that made it to chrysalis stage was okay. Then in my last batch, I just had two turn brown. I got them as eggs so they werent parasitized. Am watching the other chrysalises.

Ughhh... Well, that will be 4 out of 30, so far. I think I will separate the 4 from the others. We have another habitat that we will use only for the ones that don't look quite right just in case it is contagious. I will keep you up date as to the turn out. :(
