Many chrysalis, Not many emerging

Postby Kentt1252 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 1:55 pm

We have many chrysalis around the house now and had a female hatch out last week. Many more have turned dark, can see the monarch wings, but they are not coming out.
Some even look as they maybe shriveling up. Would like to see them hatch. Any ideas on what is going on here? We live in northeast Florida. It has been in the 90s.

Thanks

Be careful with having raising caterpillars near air conditioning. I divert the vent near my garden window, but I also mist all my pupae with water twice a day. Air condition is very dehydrating.

In Florida, you have a very high level of the OE, too. I don't know if your caterpillars are sick--unfortunately, that could be a possibility. :(
