Neat website,Mona! I only just now looked at it (I bet I can spend a week on it), but I noticed he said to catch a gravid female,so that you can get her to lay eggs inside your own little tiny enclosure.
I haven't been doing that -just looking for eggs and cats on my milkweed. But his idea makes some sense-maybe fewer eggs will be devoured before I find them. What do you say-capture her, or not?David

I capture many species of females, verify their sex (you have to have a female) and then I have a 10x12 screen tent. Monarchs love flying around nectaring and laying their eggs in there. You can also use a smaller cage. I think you need at least a 3' x 3'. I haven't figured out how to check the abdomen. There is supposed to be a small lump (spermatophore) where they have mated with the male.
