predator traps

Postby David Calhoun » Thu Jun 03, 2010 3:46 pm

Has anyone tried the wasp/fly traps, that are basically a plastic jar ,filled with nectar, that have a hole that the wasps go in but have trouble finding their way out? I used them last year and they caught lots of hornets and wasps. How about something equivalent to an "ant motel", are those any good for
reducing the numbers of outside ants?I have read about various anti-ant methods-the one using a mixture of borax and sugar ,if kept away from the milkweed, sounds promising.Any thoughts,Mona?

Terro is the best product that I've found for ants. Safe for other animals.

No wasp product on the market that actually works. I've tried one from Lowes, but it doesn't work. Last year I participated in a study and we used beer (Heineken was the recommend brand) in a 2 liter soda bottle hung from a tree about 5 ft. off the ground. Just wrap some string around the neck of the bottle. They go down after the beer and can't get out. After about 3 weeks, the container has hornets and wasp in it.

I also use a fly trap. Way too many flies in the yard and some of them are parasitizing caterpillars.

This fly trap isn't bad. But, they really stink of rotting meat.
