Am I just impatient? May 28, and my milkweeds are big, but not a cat or even an egg.CharlestownIN. 38.5 degrees N . David

There have been sightings in Indiana. How are your nectar sources? Females look for nectar and host plants. Males will stake out such an area waiting for females.

I'm in Virginia near DC. No Monarchs, no eggs... hoping to see something soon.

But, I have Red Admirals, Pipevine and Black Swallowtails, plus a batch of American Ladies.

Mona, thanks for your response. I posted too soon-On 5/30/10 I found two cats, both are third instars-I am apparently not too good at finding eggs and babies. I have a few nectar sources, mostly columbine and beardtongue blooming right now, and I am seeing the same butterfly species that you are. It's just coincidence, but the day after I found my monarch cats,I noticed my (common)
milkweed blooming.David

I have clover and dandelions blooming. Many butterflies use that for nectar. Early in the spring, they use ground ivy, too. One persons weed is a butterfly's nectar source/host plant.
