MAAC 2009 totals

Postby skates4marty » Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:56 am

The Monarchists of Anne Arundel County held its third annual meeting and convention this past week. (A few of us have been raising in earnest for 5 years).

17 people raised between 1 and 285 butterflies. 10 of these people were new this year.

Total butterflies released this season: 802

Cages of caterpillars were embedded in 20+ preschool, elementary, and middle school classrooms and media centers. With several classes using each classroom, we estimate over a thousand student contacts.

Two MAACie Awards were presented:

"Most inconvenient place for a chrysalis"
On the steering wheel of a houseboat

"Most caterpillars taken on (in-state) vacation"
40 caterpillars. The Monarchist had to collect milkweed to feed them, and she ended up returning with 57 cats and C's.
