500th Off to the South

Postby dandjtaylor » Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:16 am

Well, although I only bought 400 and received another 35 "loaner" tags this year, I have just released my 500th reared Monarch of the season, yesterday. I still have 41 tags with about 150 chrysalis and 50 cats. It has been a busy but rewarding year. This morning, there were already 18 open and hanging with the nice upper 60's overnight temp's.

Next year, I will plan better. I never expected to get situations such as the female that dumped 110 eggs a couple of weeks ago in a two-day period.

Here on the East Coast, we usually see a large passing of Monarchs in the first two weeks of October. Hopefully, they can ride those northeast winds and get some distance between them and the coming frosts.

CONGRATULATIONS! I'll be looking for them on my butterfly bushes here in NJ and in Cape May this weekend. It's getting cold this weekend, 40's in your area tonight (brrr!) Hope everyone gets through it O.K.
