Photos of your factory?

To the High-Producers: I'd love to see a photo of your operation, one that shows how much space it takes up.

I'll get you one this weekend, when my 4th's are 5th's and in their larfger containers. Done right, the factory can be a relatively small area, stacked well and organized...and clean.

last year i raised 400. This year I've raised over 500.

These are some pics from last year's set up i had on my desk at work. This year I raised them all at home because our offices were under renovation. Only thing different between home and work was at home I had the rearing containers stacked in clear plastic bins. 24 containers per bin and I had slightly more than 4 bins filled. Each container had anywhere from 4-12 cats at any given time depending on what instar size they were. I usually tried to keep no more than 4 chrysalis per container, but some had as few as 1 chrysalis to as many as 6 depending on how bad my timing was.

and a couple of shots of the public display I did last year. For the public display, I would take surplus cats out of the cups and put them in the cages a day or so before they were expected to go into their chrysalis.

This is my setup.

basically, the fifths go into the clear plastic paint can liners. All others go in the sandwich containers. You can even see in the photo of the clear plastic containers, another chrysalis that I only saw on Saturday while taking the pictures. Must have come in from the garden.

The cardboard rack is the temporary holding rack for when there is a full eclosing box, or as now, when the nights are cold, they progress faster in the shed with its heat from the sun.

Nothing fancy, just a shed in my back yard...

still looking at about 740 releases and will have tagged only 435.

Wow that's an incredible number of Monarchs!

Do you have a temperature gage in there? I put a digital one in my screen tent this year. Even with the partial shade of trees it got up to 98 degrees in full summer. The cycle inside my tent was zooming. I kept the plants watered to cool things off. I also put large potted plants around the edges.

Yes, I have a temperature gauge with Hi-Lo recording as well. Under 95 always, unless of course, it's 98 outside. There are windows that open for cross breeze.
And yes, it was a busy second year!
