Found fly in one of my cat containers

Postby texas butterfly » Sun Sep 06, 2009 7:22 pm

Weird that I found a fly in one of my cat containers.

I had two cats still in that container and moved them to another container.

Kept the fly by itself so I can identify it.

What flies do I need to look at for?

This fly seems to have large head, slender body.

I've heard about a tania fly or something. What do they look like?

Could this fly have hatch from one of the cats? Maybe there was a 3rd cat that is diseased now?

Thanks,

Not a tachnid(?) fly.

Body is too slim and light wings.

I'll keep researching and observing. Maybe an egg was on the leaf or something.

There are several Tachinids that prey on caterpillars.

Still didn't seem to be like anything that I have.

My fly is more petite.

I'll try to get picture.

Your county cooperative extension agent, should be able to tell you what species of fly it is.

Click location and find your county.
