New Group of Cats

Postby Pixie » Thu Sep 03, 2009 12:03 pm

After releasing the last monarch on Aug. 24, I had to hurry & sterilize the cage as I found several new cats . Over the past week I have brought in 12 2nd, 3rd & 4th instars. As of today I now have 2 chrysalaides, 3 in J-hook & 2 crawling around the top screen seeking their place to pupate. The remaining 5 still chomping away on milkweed. The peak migration here is mid-September, so hopefully these will be able to join their friends coming through on the way to Mexico..........

Same thing with me, as I'm bringing in milkweed for the others.

I'm finding more eggs or cats.

I hope that I have enough milkweed.

After releasing 40. I have another 20 or so cats.

I'm at the point that I am not taking in any more. I occassionally see a larger instar that looks healthy, I am putting those into my tent where there is potted milkweed. I figure I can't feed them all that some will have to fend for themselves and they do.
