It will emerge fine if on the bottom (it's actually the procedure monarch watch uses in their labs from what I've read on this website)...You will need to attach some nylon screening around the inside wall of your container and place the chysalis on the bottom near the screen so it can climb right after emerging. It's very important for them to hang so they can fully extend their wings to dry in the correct shape. Gravity takes care of it, but you need the container to be tall enough. If you browse this site, you will find what monarch watch suggests and you may want to make one of these emerging chambers and carefully transfer the chysalis to that. I don't have time to search it out for you this AM...sorry...but I know it's here somewhere. I would hesitate trying to hang it...I have tried that, too, but had alot of problems, so I just stick with the "on the bottom" method and it's always worked. Good luck!
