First eggs of season in Buffalo

Postby buffalowings » Fri Jul 11, 2014 1:34 pm

Patience was the key word this year. We usually have eggs sometime in May but here we are just past July 4th. Although I have not seen a monarch, I found 15 caterpillars just emerging on my milkweed on July 10. What a great surprise while trimming off the milkweed blooms. Although it is quite late, this is a better start than last year.

Have you had cool weather? It seems they showed up here when tempos warmed-which surely was late.

Super late. Such a tough winter, too.

First actual sighting of monarch Sunday, July 13. Collected 12 eggs immediately after.

Here, you. Actually we just received a cool front...part of another polar vortex, they say.
