Monarchs in Space Patch

Postby JFS61 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 2:17 am

I was just curious, as not only am I rabid butterfly person, but I am also a longtime follower of the space program, as well an avid space patch collector. Therefore, I was wondering if there happened to to be an officially issued patch for the Monarchs in Space experiment? Just about every payload experiment that I can recall that's been carried into space aboard the shuttle has had its own insignia, accompanied by officially issued memorabilia, the latter most commonly being patches (worn by the astronauts in addition to ground personnel).

So, if there is an official patch, I would be most grateful for any info on how I might obtain one, as its been an incredible trip having seen my two favorite (yet very disparate) hobbies come together in such a unusual way.

I checked with my NASA contact and he did not find anything.

There was very little that he found that was even specific to this mission.

Usually there are buttons with the mission logo and the names of astronauts.

I wasn't sure that he even found this.

Lets hope they come out with something later.

I, too, enjoy learning and teaching about NASA patches!

Here's another 'fabulous' idea for Monarch Watch to take in a bit more $...

Design a patch and make it available for purchase with a marginal mark-up for 'donation.'

Have participating students design a patch. Vote. Then have the patch made and available for purchase. There are companies that make patches for a reasonable amount.

Just a thought...

This appears to be the closest to anything resembling a project insignia that I've found. If I had realized that nothing official had been manufactured, I would have volunteered to have some patches and pins made up and given to the shuttle crew and other powers at be so that they could have been flown along with the caterpillars.
