One pupa heading south.

Postby Gene Sengstake » Fri Oct 20, 2006 11:47 am

I am new at this. I have a lone pupa (became so 10/17/06) and am driving down to Texas - leaving 10/21/06. Brought him in as a larva or he would have frozen the next night - and actually witnessed his transformation into a pupa several days later. Any suggestions as to the best release point? I am presently thinking of somewhere around Eagle Pass. I will probably leave him in his present pupal stage - and would also appreciate any suggestions on how to "properly" do that so as to best afford protection against any predators. I will not have computer access - so my phone # is: 402-560-0108. Thanks. Gene.

Wow that sure is nice of you saving it all that work! I'm sure it would appreciate going as far south as you go before you let it go.

Thanks for your interest! The pupa was left in the hands of a very capable person in Eagle Pass, TX and I have since received notification and pictures of a successful emergence - tagging - and release. He was a healthy male - a little larger than average. Though he was only one - of millions - this expeerience has been one of the more meaningful times in my life - thanks to one little caterpillar.
