When should I expect the Monarchs?

Postby Meg » Tue Jan 11, 2005 1:44 pm

Hey all- I'm new to the whole Monarch watching thing. I 've also moved recently to Santa Barbara, CA. At the end of my block is a Monarch preserve, so I assume at some point I'll get to see some roosts, but I don't know when to look for them. I've heard that they are usually here in the fall or winter, but I haven't seen any yet. Does anyone know when the Monarchs usually get to this part of the California coast?

Walter Sakai has some great information about the monarchs in California, including a list of overwintering sites at

http://homepage.smc.edu/sakai_walter/

Additionally, we try to include information about the western monarch population in our monthly email updates:

http://www.monarchwatch.org/update/

Hope this helps!
