Sighting in central Ky

Postby Seanaldo » Wed Apr 04, 2012 7:55 am

Almost positive I saw one yesterday. I only have one small milkweed plant that I overwintered! My seeds that I ordered haven't germinated, and the stuff outside is only just starting to come up. I panicked, like someone whose house guests showed up hours too early, and ordered "takeout" from a plant catalog. hope they get here soon! (the plants not the butterflies!)

As long as the plants from the catalog don't have any pesticides. If it has not rained, water a bit. That will help your plants in the ground grow faster.

I saw a confirmed sighting on one of my natural history list serves that was southeastern Virginia.

Hmmm....so although I think I saw another one, and my husband did, as well, I haven't seen any 'hanging around'. Where are they? Any idea when I should expect them? Maybe when my Joe Pye blooms and every bug within a five mile radius shows up?

Looks like it is another feast or famine year. I just heard that they were laying less than 5 miles from me, but I haven't seen them. It's a down pour in one area and is bone dry in others.

Yes-- I've seen a grand total of two this year. :(
