Peak Migration on the North Shore

PEAK!!!!

As is typical with the North Shore of Massachusetts, we don't follow the general rules of latitutde and peak migration dates. I suspect it has something to do with the water tempertures affect on the coastal air (keeping it a bit warmer) as well as when the winds turn predominantly from the Northeast. As I reported a couple of seasons ago in the second week of October, I suspected this morning that the peak was here due to the fact that there were 5 untagged monarchs in my waystation. Most for the past month have been my own tagged 'flies that hang around for a couple of days (I still have 50+ chrysalis). So after I tagged the 5 in my yard, we went to Lynch Park in Beverly, MA, right on the water, and sure enough, they were everywhere! I took only 18 tags and my net. I used all the tags and still didn't come close to catching them all. We will go back tomorrow with more tags to try to get some more on their way down to Mexico (or Florida).
