Monarchs, eggs in Milwaukee

Postby James Price » Fri May 13, 2011 4:02 pm

A friend made the first reliable monarch sighting I've heard here in Wauwatosa, WI, yesterday (May 12) and today I found more than two dozen eggs on the milkweed shoots in my front yard. I think we cannot collect the eggs because we don't have enough common milkweed up yet to feed them. Perhaps enough will sprout before the caterpillars get too big.

Update on egg count. I got down on my hands and knees and crawled through the patch. We have 47 eggs in the first laying.
