OMG, Purple Hairstreak, Atlides halesus

Postby Mona Miller » Tue Sep 14, 2010 9:30 pm

This is the first time that I have ever seen this butterfly in person and in my backyard. I was walking past a teasel that had finished blooming and it was perched at the top. No mistaking. But, before I
could get my camera it was gone.

Great Purple Hairstreak, Atlides halesus

I noted that it likes Goldenrods. I actually purchased a Goldenrod collection from Shooting Star Nursery this year.

This is Ron Rottman's ebay account where you can see pictures of the plants.

Or you can email Ron at:
dogwood@eritternet
Ozark Nursery in Arkansas

He propagates plants like Pawpaw, Spicebush, many milkweeds and other butterfly host/nectar plants, too.

If there is something not on his ebay list, then email him and he'll tell you whether he is growing it.
