timing of the stages

Postby janetjwhite » Tue Oct 03, 2006 7:41 am

I live in South Texas and have acquired my first monarch caterpillar. I have been watching it munch on milkweed in the jar and this morning it is in the J, hanging from one of the branches of the milkweed. I need to know how long I can expect it to remain in the crysallis once it is formed. I'm guessing about three weeks. Is that about right? Also, doesn't the crysallis for about a day or so after the cat goes into the J?
Thanks for any help.
