A Sticky Situation

Postby Mona Miller » Tue Jul 26, 2011 4:46 pm

Be careful when fixing broken butterfly wings. My son was helping me fix a butterfly's broken wing. He glued my thumb to its wing. #-o My butterfly and I are bonding. Don't worry, we carefully got my thumb off. :cheesy: But, the glue didn't work. :( Then I took an orange tag (top of tagging sheet), cut it into, and put that on the break. One half on the top and one half on the bottom. So far, so good. :cheesy:

The orange stickers work for me as well. Little "Splints".

I wonder if Monarch Watch could start actually selling the orange stickers to splint butterfly wings. They work much better than glue. They do have glue on them.

Jim,

Hint, hint....

I would buy them. I am so afraid of glue getting on the wrong place like their legs or something. My hands are not as steady as they used to be.

I got super glue on my fingers and glued myself to the butterfly. I was careful to remove my finger from the wing. We are both okay. But, the wing fix did not work. It was a complete wing fix.

3M Package strapping tape works for me for wing splints:

although I'm not sure how waterproof the glue is.

The ordinary rubber cement available in office supply stores is truly waterproof.
