My First Monarch's

Postby Terri » Tue Jun 01, 2010 11:22 am

Hello, I'm a newbie in southeast FL, this is my first post.

Today is the first time in a long time I've slept in, I went outside to water my orchids and got a shocker.
WOW, three flying monarchs and one almost dry! I didn't expect any this soon. I still have at least 20 chrysalis in the screen room that my husband built so I will be checking all day.
A monarch was here yesterday laying eggs in the garden and there are cats munching away on the milkweed! I just planted my garden May 18th, I never expected butterflies this fast!

If you plant it, they will come. A friend once told me that they hadn't got the butterfly weed in the ground at a local butterfly garden that they were installing at a library, when a Monarch came a laid eggs on it.

I haven't seen any these year, but I've got my fingers crossed. They are coming closer to me. I keep watching the sightings on Journey North.

The Sightings form has a drop down list. You can look for eggs, larvae, adults, or other observations.

Wow, nice to know that. I love monarch. I think you take care it nicely that's why you see the butterflies so fast. :)
