good start

Postby kali » Thu Jun 21, 2007 9:04 pm

Hi all,

I am a new member and last year was my first attempt at raising monarchs. I raised about 15 last year. this year I already have 21 chrysalis and 16 more cats eating away. I have one baby and one egg that should hatch early next week.

I built my own frame and have lots of milkweed in my yard. Most of my cats came from the whorled milkweed in the front yard. if i see a female laying eggs, i try to get them asap otherwise they are gone within a day.

Very cool! Did you plant that milkweed yourself or was it growing wild?
Keep us updated...great to hear how others are doing with helping the monarchs thru their cycle.
Happy Times!

I planted the whorled milkweed in the front yard and that is where most of the first batch came from since the native milkweed hadn't emerged yet.

the egg hatched and I released 6 butterflies today. I saw one emerge for the first time! should have about 10 more in a couple of days.
