Use of Insect Repellant While Tagging

Postby psi_chemie » Tue Sep 05, 2006 8:41 am

I have never used any bug spray when tagging for obvious reasons, but I am always going home with mosquito and other mystery bug bites. I was wondering that if I carefully applied bug repellant everywhere but my hands, would it be OK to tag monarchs?

I really don't want to run the risk of messing up any butterflies I'm tagging.

Try dabbing yourself with white vinegar. It might have a mild sting for a couple of seconds, but that's all. Someone told me about it last spring when the mayflies are crazy, and it kept them away. Don't know how it'll work for mosquitoes.

Scroll down for a nice comparison of bug repellants. I totally refuse to use deets products. Too poisonous.

I bought and used the Repel Lemon Eucalyptus and it worked.
