tag recoveries from Monarchs tagged in fall of 2004

Postby Iowa Tom » Wed Sep 07, 2005 11:31 am

I have misplaced the last tag recovery record URL for what I saw on the Internet a couple months ago. I had some recoveries listed. Can someone post the URL for me?

Thanks!

The old stuff is gone; the spiffy new database has all the recoveries now. Just put in your name and it will show you all of your recoveries for all years. http://www.monarchwatch.com/tagmig/recoveries.htm

Thanks Pat,

I have another question. I don't have the tag info here at home but I'll try to describe my situation anyway. I looked up my name and found recoveries. However, the number they list as being associated with the recovery in no case even comes close to any of the numbers that were actually on the tag. Have any idea how I can find out what tag was recaptured?

Thanks!

I'm going out on a limb here and will take a guess that the number that's posted is probably the correct number of the butterfly that was recovered ~ presumably they read that directly off the tag. Then I believe they look up who the tagger was (or who they sold the tag to, anyway) either from the returned tagging reports database or from the sales records for the tags. Probably someone just looked it up incorrectly or it was a typo, or you have a name very similar to another tagger's and the search returned his recoveries? In any case, there's a reporting form on the database where you can send in corrections; you could just tell them the tag number and that it's not one of yours and they can probably figure out whose it really was.
