Tagged Monarch in SC

Postby birdfinder » Thu Sep 23, 2010 7:09 pm

Hi, I'm new here. I just got activated today and I'm not sure what forum to put this on. I'm more into birding than butterflys, but I just wanted to touch base with someone here to say I had a monarch on my lantana Tuesday Sept 21, with a tag from Univ. of KS. I took pictures on my camera with the macro setting and the info on the tag read:
TAG@ KU.EDU
1-888-TAGGING
NMT 568

I had no idea that monarchs were tagged until earlier this month when I went on a beach birdwalk (I live in Charleston SC) and we saw lots of monarchs and our guide is a naturalist and was telling us all about how its done. I feel so fortunate that one from KS ended up feeding on my lantana this week. Can you post pictures on this forum? If so, I'd love to show you the pics I took of the monarch with the tag.

I know you can post pics to this forum. There is a member that does it all the time. I'm not sure how you do it though. Mona will be able to advise but she may not be around here for a few days.

We hope you now get as passionate and enthusiastic about butterflies as you do birds. :)

Look in the FAQ section, it will tell you how to post pictures.

There are boxes above reply messages. Just click the one and you can put in a url in the middle (where I put the asterick) from flickr or photobucket. That is one way to post pictures.

Ah. Our tags are in the NGH and NNC series.
So cool that you reported your sighting though. I hope more people do. :cheesy:

I guess birdwatchers would have their binoculars and macro cameras handy and might be able to see the tag numbers. 8)

And YES! Post your photos please. We love photos. :D

I started out being a bird watcher. Now I watch everything. Birds eat a lot of butterfly and moth caterpillars so they are connected after all. Plant native host plants and keep the connection alive. :)
