I have a question for those with more knowledge than I currently possess. Here in KC, zone five and 39 degrees of longitude, I am now seeing lots of monarchs. In my yard, the butterfly bush, swamp milkweed, blazing star, and coneflowers are in bloom and are also being visited by many species of butterflies and bees and our local ruby throat hummingbirds. Are the monarchs I am seeing most likely breeding locals or might they be early migrants? We are over a month ahead of the peak migration period for this area. Thanks for any help. Greg Nedblake
