Different capture and release sites

Postby cindybb » Wed Sep 23, 2009 6:52 pm

Hi all -
I have a question I hope someone can help answer. I netted 20 monarchs in a prairie area to take to my college elementary science methods class so my students could learn about the project, tag and release the monarchs. The two sites are about 30 miles apart. Which site should I record on the form? The capture site or the release site? Or does it make any difference?
Trying to do the right thing - and thanks for your help.

Release sight. That is the sight that they will be traveling from.

I raised Monarchs in Virginia. I have a permit to take them to Maryland. I took them to Maryland and tagged them there. I recorded the release sight, not the sight of origin. What is being recorded is the mileage. How far did they travel? And, from where did they travel.
