I had to share this article from one of our NJ shore towns. :(

It's so hard to help people see things in a different light! But as
Winnie the Pooh says.. "Weeds are flowers ,too. Once you get to know them."

What a shame. What else is new? There will always be people with more dollars than sense.

That basically describes where I live. I wrote a letter to my town about a monarch breeding ground telling them to preserve the area and plant milkweed, and you know what they did, re-paved the road and cut the milkweed... :( Nobody seems to care. I wish the monarch watch team would come down to where I live and have an event, and at the event they declare the area preserved for butterflies and all wildlife. :D

It's sad I cant event put up the monarch waystation there because I dont own the property, so I have no way of telling the public about the problem..

That's sad, very sad. And what makes it sadder still, is that scenario is all too common everywhere.

I know all the towns care about is building more houses and cutting down untouched land. What happened to preservation? Just because animals arent endangered doesnt mean the public dont want natural areas preserved.

Another case by me is at the local park. They have half a mile that was used for an obstacle course, but that was years ago. Now it grew into a small forest, and many critters live in it, because the surrouding areas are all houses. Lasy year they dozed 25% of it down to add grass for soccer practise. They dont even realize all the wildlife they are killing, it's the only natural area left for a few miles, why cut it down?

In it we have many birds, insects, salamanders, raccons, bats, and garter snakes.

I wish they would preserve it, and plant a few new trees to make up for the ones cut down.

I strongly believe in conservation. Probably more than any other cause in the world. We humans have burned up our planet and are probaly going to pay for it one day. No one cares... people with high social standing that can actually do things to help are too caught up in their own issues to even look at wildlife (if there is even any where they live) It makes me sick... truely sick. I dont understand what animal activists are doing becuase they are not even focusing on the main problems half of the time... I once heard that they payed a town alot of money to change its name from hamburger to something else. Thats not going to help animals. Promote conservation... hold rallys fo support... relocate lost animals... help town build public wildlife habitats... the natural world needs all the help it can get

The Monarch Watch Waystation webpage has a nice brochure that explains the importance of conserving roadways for wildlife. These can be printed and handout to officials:

Monarch Waystation Promotional Brochure

It is located in the section called downloads:
