Hi, I would like to know how and where to send photos I have of a black and yellow monarch that has visited my backyeard for several years now, she lays her eggs on my parsley....I have pictures taken this year of the different stages of growth progress, I would really like to know what kind it is. Thanks.

Swallowtail Butterflies

Postby Jim » Mon Jul 17, 2006 12:09 pm

Hi Sandyjay - glad to see you made it to the forums - welcome!

What you have there is a swallowtail butterfly - the caterpillars feed on dill, fennel, parsley, carrot, rue (lots of things in the carrot family).

Check out these images for help in identifying the type of swallowtail:

If you still can't ID it please feel free to email the images to me.

Hope this helps!
