May 3 – Monarch Biology, Ecology and Monarch Larval Monitoring Project Training :

“The MLMP @ CNC Back Porch Review”

Master Naturalists Kip Kiphart & Cathy Downs will host a training session for the Monarch Larval Monitoring Project. This workshop will cover Monarch Biology and Life Cycle, Milkweed Ecology, Monarch Migration, and citizen science projects to monitor monarchs. Participants will visit the CNC's milkweed patch to monitor for monarch larvae. Training is approved for credit for Master Naturalists. Live butterflies and caterpillars will be on display.

Kip Kiphart is a retired Cardio-Vascular Surgeon, Texas Master Naturalists since 1998, became a Monarch Larval Monitoring trainer in 2002 and became a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist in 2011. He founded and oversees the MLMP citizen science research at the Cibolo Nature Center.

Cathy Downs is a Texas Master Naturalist, NABA butterfly count leader, experienced Monarch Larval Monitoring Trainer, and became a Monarch Watch Conservation Specialist in 2012.
